Colour Management can be a timely, costly and confusing business. This course is structured to give image/file creators and handlers a solid grounding to enable them to take control and increase their, and their client’s confidence that colours are handled correctly. By understanding and implementing a colour managed workflow you will save time and money and ensure
the best reproduction of your files.
The group often comprises photographers, designers and printers that give a valuable insight into the whole workflow and how colour management decisions affects others. There are a maximum of eight places so the day is flexible depending on the knowledge and specific needs of the group. There is always time to address individual problems within the context of the day, so please do bring files and prints to examine.
The morning session covers the basics of colour management theory. We look at the colour settings in Creative Suite applications, profiling monitors, RGB and CMYK colour spaces and PDF standards. We go through some of the ISO standards that are applicable to the graphic arts, particularly 12647. The afternoon session is more open and you can practice profiling, examine your files or work on specific colour management programs.
The objective of the day is for you to come out with the practical knowledge to examine your own hardware, software and file workflow. Below are many of the topics that are covered, and is dependent upon student level, time available and preferences of your course booking.
