Database Publishing Tools from Em Software
We offer training and assistance with database publishing tasks and often work with the solutions from Em Software. InData, Xdata, InCatalog and Xcatalog are software robots which flawlessly build and update your data-driven documents while you watch. Full details of these tools and the pricing for each of them is listed below.
InData for InDesign and Xdata for QuarkXPress
InData and Xdata bring the full layout, design, typographic and picture publishing power of InDesign or QuarkXPress to bear on all your data-driven repetitive publishing tasks.
Simply put, InData and Xdata work like a mail merge on steroids. You create a template in a normal document, with rules that tell it how to format your text and graphics. Then, with a single menu invocation, the plug-in builds your document at jaw-dropping speeds—up to hundreds or even thousands of pages per hour.
Use your publishing platform’s typographic controls for each variable field and for any static text, to get just the right look for your data.
InData and Xdata have a powerful English-like scripting language. You can put any field from your data source in any order in the text flow, force page breaks, generate headers/footers, apply master pages as needed - and lots more.
Use InData / Xdata’s scripting language to build simple or complex rules for including or excluding fields, pictures and static text, and there are no limits on your data: records and fields can be as many and as long as you need.
InCatalog for InDesign and Xcatalog for QuarkXPress
With InCatalog or Xcatalog you can connect your catalog contents to your database and remove the need for manual updating.
InCatalog and Xcatalog, with their easy-to-use data linker panels, enable you to create transparent links between your documents and your databases or spreadsheets. Once you have links in place, you can update prices, graphics, or product information with a simple menu invocation—or even change versions or swap languages. With InCatalog or Xcatalog, you can rest assured—your documents will always reflect your database contents.
InCatalog and Xcatalog are designed to update prices, graphics, or product information with one-click ease, in just about any kind of catalog, price list, travel schedule, directory, one-to-one marketing flyer, etc. Or, for example, if you have different pricing regions in a catalog, InCatalog and Xcatalog can swap the prices in for each region automatically. InCatalog and Xcatalog can also extract updated document information so you can keep your database in synch with what you’ve changed, if that’s how your work flows best. The Pro versions enable bi-directional updating to add extra functionality to your workflow.
Price: InCatalog or Xcatalog £667 and InCatalog Pro or Xcatalog Pro £1,000.
With Xtags you can turn tagged text into complete complex documents for InDesign or QuarkXPress.
Xtags for InDesign and Xtags for XPress are import/export text filters supporting the Quark XPress Tags language plus their own extended Xtags tags, for tremendous document-building and extracting power.
With Xtags, you can build any text content with full styling (the same as XPress Tags), anchor and fill picture and text frames, build and fill unanchored frames, size picture contents to containing frames, size frames to content (text or picture) in various flexible ways, translate text and tags on input, use macros to reduce typing, apply master pages and spreads, and more. For output, Xtags will save the contents of any text story, including anchored text and picture frames, and will also save the structure and content of any selected text, picture or group frames.
